President Joe Biden tested positive Thursday for COVID-19. Biden and White House staff have provided updates on his well-being.

“President Biden is currently experiencing mild symptoms, mostly rhinorrhea (or “runny nose”) and fatigue, with an occasional dry cough, which started yesterday evening,” Kevin O’Connor, the physician to the president, said in a White House letter.

Biden, 79, posted on Twitter: "Folks, I’m doing great. Thanks for your concern. Just called Senator Casey, Congressman Cartwright, and Mayor Cognetti (and my Scranton cousins!) to send my regrets for missing our event today. Keeping busy!"

Biden canceled a speech Thursday in Pennsylvania about gun violence and a weekend trip to his home in Wilmington, Delaware, after testing positive.

Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, said in a statement that Biden had “tested positive for Covid-19. He is fully vaccinated and twice boosted and experiencing very mild symptoms.”

O’Connor said in the statement that Biden will receive Paxlovid, an emergency use anti-viral drug that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for people who meet the criteria.

“Early use of PAXLOVID, in this case, provides additional protection against severe disease,” O’Connor said in the letter.

Biden is expected to make a recovery, “as most maximally protected patients,” O’Connor said.

Biden will isolate based on the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
