‘Pretty Little Liars’ Season 5 Spoilers: EP Marlene King Teases Clues For Finale
“Pretty Little Liars” executive producer Marlene King loves to tease fans! Although King and the rest of the cast and crew might be on holiday break, the EP took some time to post a juicy Season 5 clue on Instagram.
“’PLL’ starts January 6 and the finale ends here,” Marlene King captioned her Instagram photo. The image doesn’t feature any of the show’s stars, or even background of the hit ABC Family drama – instead, it’s a screen shot of a song that was playing on King’s phone or tablet, “Walkin’ After Midnight” by Patsy Cline. “Many clues to be found in this song,” she concluded. “#PatsyCline #WalkinAfterMidnight #ForReal.”
Cline’s song was initially released in 1957, but King’s photo revealed that she was listening to the 1961 remake off of a remastered greatest hits album. But what Season 5 clues is she referring to? We’re breaking down the lyrics to Patsy Cline’s song:
“I go out walkin’ after midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just like we used to do
I’m always walkin’ after midnight searchin’ for you”
The first verse of the song seems to refer to Alison (Sasha Pieterse). As viewers know, Alison has a tendency to sneak around in the middle of the night – whether it’s attending a mysterious gathering at a barn, meeting people to do a little blackmailing or even engaging in a little romantic rendezvous. With CeCe (Vanessa Ray) back in the picture after the Christmas episode it’s possible that the two girls are up to trouble in Rosewood again … “just like we used to do.”
“I walk for miles along the highway
Well, that’s just my way
Of sayin’ I love you
I’m always walkin’ after midnight, searchin’ for you”
The second verse of Patsy Cline’s song could be in reference to Mona (Janel Parrish). A flashback previously revealed Alison walking along a road after someone tried to kill her. Viewers will remember that Mona picked her up and manipulated her into leaving town. Mona’s now dead, but who killed her is still a mystery.
“I stop to see a weepin’ willow
Cryin’ on his pillow
Maybe he’s cryin’ for me
And as the skies turn gloomy
Night winds whisper to me
I’m lonesome as I can be”
Alison may be conniving, but she’s definitely starting to crack. In the Christmas special she began to hallucinate her dead mother and Mona. The third verse could be hinting that Alison will continue to spiral out of control and potentially turn to someone to open up about some of the terrible things she’s been apart of.
“Pretty Little Liars” will have to see what Marlene King was hinting at as the rest of Season 5 unfolds. The winter premiere will kick off three months following the death of Mona, however she’s far from forgotten. The girls are certain that Alison played a part in Mona’s death and are bent on getting “justice for Mona.” In order to get justice, the girls will search for evidence to prove their theory – but Alison has a “seemingly airtight alibi.”
