‘Pretty Little Liars’ Season 5 Spoilers: Shocking Mona Development In Episode 16 [RECAP]
The gals on “Pretty Little Liars” have the worst luck. With Alison (Sasha Pieterse) behind bars, the teens thought they’d be safe from “A.” Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case, especially with Mona’s (Janel Parrish) body still missing.
Emily (Shay Mitchell), Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Hanna (Ashley Benson) encountered problems right from the start of episode 16, “Over the Barrel.” Emily was struggling after her breakup with Paige (Lindsey Shaw) and was leaning heavily on work to get her ex-girlfriend off her mind. While that may have worked in the past, Emily kept butting heads with the new chef, Talia (Miranda Rae Mayo).
Aria was stressing about telling Ezra (Ian Harding) about her sneaky college acceptance and trying to find a way around it. Ezra was busy dealing with café shenanigans, which made it a little easier on Aria to avoid the confession … but unfortunately for her, “A” wanted the secret to come out. Aria narrowly avoided her letter accidentally slipping into Ezra’s hands courtesy of “A” manipulating the receipt printer.
Hanna on the other hand seemed to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after discovering Jason (Drew Van Acker) doing the walk of shame from her house. She confronted her mom, Ashley (Laura Leighton), about it, but it came at a very bad time. Pastor Ted (Edward Kerr) returned from Peru and wanted to propose to Ashley.
The big bombshell of the episode came from storage locker 1017. From beyond the grave Mona was able to alert the girls someone hacked into her laptop. The message featured the GPS coordinates, giving the gang a storage locker to search.
Suspiciously enough, the alert came right after Aria got a mysterious message from “H.” With Aria set to meet “H” in public, Spencer and Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) decided to scope out the storage locker.
Once they got to the building, Spencer and Caleb discovered a blonde girl was renting out 1017 -- and the room smelled awful (perhaps like a decaying body?). The pair broke in through the air ducts and found the room was full of materials that could potentially incriminate all of them. Besides Mona’s laptop, the locker was organized with chemicals, a few bags of bloody clothes and a mysterious barrel. Upon closer inspection, Spencer figured out that the chemicals could be used to preserve a specimen -- or corrode it. Immediately their thoughts turned to Mona. And as Caleb put it, they’re old friend could either be “pickled or dissolved.”
So, what was in the barrel? The two got spooked and ran off before they were able to open the barrel. When they got back to Caleb’s they wiped the security cameras and searched for the blonde girl or Detective Holbrook (Sean Faris), their main suspect. Unfortunately they found neither, but Caleb continued to do some digging after Spencer left. Looking into the name on the rental agreement, Caleb discovered something that could change everything -- Hanna’s name was listed on the paperwork.
Episode 16 of “Pretty Little Liars” concluded with “A” breaking into the Rosewood police station and hacking (or logging) into Detective Holbrook’s account.
