'Pretty Little Liars' Season 6 Spoilers: First Look At New 'A' Revealed In Episode 14 [RECAP]
Did we just join Team Spaleb? Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Caleb’s (Tyler Blackburn) new relationship heated up the screen during Tuesday night’s episode of “Pretty Little Liars.”
Season 6, episode 14, titled “New Guy, New Lies,” kicks off with Spencer smiling as she wakes up next to Caleb. But a quick look at her cellphone sends her back to reality. Charlotte (Vanessa Ray) might be dead, but someone has picked up where she left off.
Spencer meets Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Hanna (Ashley Benson) to discuss their latest threatening text.
“You know who did it and I’m going to make you talk.”
It’s been five years since "A" last tortured them and they’re not the same scared high school girls. Hanna decides to text the mysterious person back.
“Do I know you?” she asks.
“YES,” their new stalker replies.
But that’s not the only thing he/she sends. The stalker also texts them a picture of a nine iron, the weapon that was used to kill Charlotte.
Do they really know who killed Charlotte? Emily, Hanna and Spencer believe that Ezra (Ian Harding) is responsible for the murder. However, Aria needs proof and Ezra is not in town to answer any more of her questions. Sabrina (Lulu Brud), Ezra’s employee at The Brew, reveals that she watched him drive off.
Aria pressures Emily to distract Sabrina (Lulu Brud) at The Brew while she steals the key to his loft. Emily’s hesitant at first, but ultimately agrees to. Once inside, Aria finds Ezra’s set of golf clubs. His nine iron is in the bag, so he couldn’t have killed Charlotte.
Ezra’s name is cleared for now, but Aria adds a new name to the list of suspects. She listens to messages on Ezra’s answering machine (yes, he still has an answering machine), and discovers that her dad, Byron (Chad Lowe), had called him. Turns out that Ezra saw Byron the night that Charlotte was killed. But what exactly did he see?
Meanwhile, things are just a little awkward between Spencer and Caleb. While the two are definitely into each other, they don’t know what to say about the night before. However, Caleb makes a big move to prove how interested he is in Spencer. He goes to see Toby (Keegan Allen) to tell him that he’s started something with his ex. Although visibly uncomfortable, Toby gives Caleb his blessing if a relationship is something that both he and Hanna want. After all, Toby is “over” Spencer. He even bought his new girlfriend, Yvonne (Kara Royste), an engagement ring.
Toby didn’t tell Caleb about his plans to propose, but Spencer was able to get her hands on the information thanks to a profile done of Yvonne’s family by her mom’s campaign. Rosewood is such a small town that Yvonne is not just Toby’s girlfriend, she’s the daughter of Veronica Hasting’s (Lesley Fera) opponent. As Spencer reads up on Yvonne outside a small shop, a mysterious person in a blacked out vehicle takes photos of her.
Things aren’t any easier for Hanna. Upset about lying to her mom and Jordan (David Coussins) about erasing The Radley security footage, she decides to come clean about her crime. Needless to say, Ashley (Laura Leighton) is NOT happy about it. Angry that her daughter would revert back to her high school days of protecting her friends, Ashley explains that The Radley’s security company has a backup tape at another facility. If the police get their hands on the tape they’ll know that Hanna was the one who erased it.
Jordan, on the other hand, is a lot more relaxed about the situation. He likes that Hanna would go to bat for her friends and promises to get her a lawyer. However, he tells her that she’ll need to be honest with him moving forward, and that involves telling him everything.
The situation with the new “A” gets even more complicated when their stalker sends them more messages. Spencer gets one about Yvonne and Toby (“I guess she is better than you. He will never put a ring on your finger.”), while Hanna gets one warning her not to tell the police or her lawyer about the texts. But perhaps the most chilling moment in episode 14 is an older looking man spying on Emily and Aria at Byron’s house. He’s wearing a mailman uniform as he watches the two women through the window. Who is he? And why is he watching them?
Aria and Emily don’t even see the creepy mailman because they’re too focused on trying to get in touch with Byron. His car is in the driveway, but he’s not in the house. Aria gives her dad a call to ask about Ezra’s voicemail, however, Byron refuses to talk. He hangs up after telling her he’s in a meeting. Byron wasn’t in a meeting though. The camera cuts to him sitting in the passenger seat of a car. He tells the unknown person in the drivers seat that he thinks Aria knows.
Is Byron hinting that he’s somehow connected to Charlotte’s death? That’s the only thing on Aria’s mind. She remembers that she overheard her dad fighting with her mom about Charlotte. Byron was upset when he learned that Charlotte might be released and promised that she would walk the streets of Rosewood over his “dead body.”
As Aria worries about her dad, Spencer enlists the help of Caleb to link the new texts to a location. Caleb is able to track a signal down to a storage locker with no lock on it. The two open the door and discover a garbage can. Inside is a cell phone and “A’s” old uniform, gloves and black hoodie.
“I don’t lurk in the shadows,” a message on the phone reads. “I hide in plain sight.”
Elsewhere, Hanna makes the decision not to tell the lawyer about the text messages. They go to the police station to give a statement, but Lorenzo (Travis Winfrey) tells Hanna’s lawyer that there is no need for them to stay. Their only piece of information, the backup security tape from The Radley, has gone missing.
Episode 14 of “Pretty Little Liars” ends with Ashley returning home with the backup security tape. She stole it to protect Hanna. Meanwhile, Aria discovers that her dad’s nine iron is missing. He calls her while she’s out with her friends and reveals that he’s got something to tell her. But the biggest jaw dropper came in the final moments. An older looking man, the same man who was in a mailman uniform outside Byron’s house, is at The Radley wearing a bellhop uniform. He exits the hotel into a blacked out car, the same car that was snapping photos of Spencer.
Who is this mysterious man? There is more to him than meets the eye. His face is actually a mask.
