Prince Albert returns to the Monaco Picnic with Princess Charlene and kids, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The royal couple of Monaco made the picnic a calendar fixture with their twins until the pandemic happened. Speaking to People, Prince Albert said that U Cavagnëtu or Monaco Picnic is a fun event and "a really nice moment of the year."
"It's just a great, very informal setting. The mass, which opens it up, is a little formal, but then it goes right into a picnic, and there's a little cocktail party atmosphere. It's just wonderful to be able to walk around and have 'tell me about your summer-type conversations" with people you know," he added.
Prince Albert, this year, took to the park in a casual "dad" look while Princess Charlene stunned everyone with her high collared white lace tunic and pants from South African designer Terence Bray. Gabriella and Jacques, for their part, sported coordinated blue-colored outfits.
"And although the kids don't fully understand the whole meaning of it yet, they've always had a good time because they usually just run around and play with other kids," Prince Albert stated. "With the kids, I can tell you, there's been minimal preparation this year. I haven't really sat down and explained it to them, but they know something is happening."
"I'm sure there'll be a lot of handshakings and a lot of kissing and hugging,'' the husband of Princess Charlene went on. "Most of the people who'll be there, I've already seen recently. I'm sure it'll be a good crowd there because people really want to get back to having a good time. To be able to interact with friends, to have a good meal and a nice drink. We saw that with the return of visitors to Monaco this summer."
The recent sighting of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene came amid speculations that their marriage is hitting rock bottom. Body language expert Judi James even suggested that the former Olympian's body language during the F1 in Monte Carlo, earlier this year, hinted at potential marital woes.
Photographs showed Princess Charlene walking side-by-side with Prince Albert. However, the royal couple was not seen holding hands at the time, prompting James to say that the princess seemingly avoided "forced tactile poses" with her husband.
"Albert can be seen mirroring these poses with his arm extended at waist level around his wife, but her poses seem to be predominate with the drivers. This could be a deliberate decision to help avoid fuelling speculation and scrutiny, with less riding on her poses with the drivers than those with her husband," James said.
"There have been moments in South Africa and when she first returned to Monaco when Charlene seemed to attempt some very emphatically tactile poses with her husband, clinging to his neck and pressing her face against his. It would be totally unfair to expect Charlene, who has clearly been suffering from ill-health, to perform any gruesome 'togetherness' poses with her husband purely for the public," she added.
To recall, Princess Charlene recently returned to Monaco following a 10-month absence. The ex-professional swimmer had stayed in her native South Africa, where she was forced to remain after contracting severe ear, nose and throat infections.
In May, Princess Charlene was spotted with her kids and Prince Albert for the first time since November after spending time in a treatment facility for "exhaustion."
