Prince Andrew’s Interview Shouldn’t Have Been Held At Buckingham Palace, Expert Says
Prince Andrew’s recent interview was criticized by royal experts and critics. And in a recent blow, his decision to hold the interview at Buckingham Palace was slammed by a royal commentator.
While speaking with Express, Richard Fitzwilliams said that there’s so much buzz surrounding Queen Elizabeth’s knowledge and involvement in her son’s interview. It is believed that she was aware that Prince Andrew will be talking about his scandal, but Her Majesty didn’t approve of him giving an interview.
Fitzwilliams said that regardless of the Queen approved the interview or not, the fact that it was held at Buckingham Palace was questionable and surprising.
“There is a debate in the media over what the Queen knew about the interview which she reportedly had approved, obviously without detailed knowledge of what was to transpire. It saw the Palace used as a setting to give a cachet to a royal PR disaster that is unique in its awfulness,” he said.
Fitzwilliams also said that the Duke of York wasn’t alone in making bad PR choices. In the past, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have also done the same thing when they gave an interview while they were in South Africa.
“Harry and Meghan’s ITV emotional documentary which included details of the stress they feel being part of royal life, Harry’s confirmation of a rift with William and his attack on the tabloids before the Southern Africa trip ended, together with their taking a six-week break as they consider what royal life they want adds to the sense of uncertainty,” he said.
The royal expert said that the recent PR mistakes say a lot of things about the palace advisers. It’s possible that they are not giving the royals responsible advice or they are not being listened to at all. Fitzwiliams said that the palace needs to get a grip during this difficult time before it becomes too late.
