Prince Charles ‘Accused’ Of Being Just Like Edward VIII For This Reason
Prince Charles was previously accused of being just like Edward VIII by his great-uncle Louis Mountbatten.
In the documentary “The Madness of Prince Charles,” the names of those that influenced Prince Charles growing up were revealed. Mountbatten was a very important mentor for the heir to the throne.
When Mountbatten noticed the similarities between Prince Charles and Edward VIII, he went ballistic. Prince Charles’ great-uncle wasn’t pleased with the fact that Edward VIII threw the monarchy into turmoil over his decision to abdicate from the throne so he could marry an American divorcee in 1936.
Meanwhile, Lord Mountbatten penned a scathing letter after Prince Charles changed his holiday plans, making much more work for other people. Biographer Philip Ziegler said that Prince Charles’ uncle declared, at that time, that he was becoming like his great-uncle.
“I see all the same irresponsibility and frivolity coming out. You must take a pull, you must not become like your great-uncle David – think what happened to him,” he wrote.
In November, Prince Charles was also likened to Lord Mountbatten. Judi James, a royal expert, talked about how much the future king’s body language has changed as he inches closer and closer to taking over the throne. Prince Charles’ posture has also changed, and this could signal something very important with regards to how he will behave as king.
“Now Charles and Camilla have their tour of Africa and Charles’ 70th birthday celebrations. And suddenly they are both adopting a look of old-school regality,” she told Express.
James went on to say that Prince Charles’ high-status posturing was more reminiscent of his parents and his uncle Lord Mountbatten in the 1950s and the 1960s than modern UK royalty.
Mountbatten was the one who introduced Queen Elizabeth to Prince Philip years ago. He also assigned his nephew, the Duke of Edinburgh, to look after the then-princess during her visit to the Naval College Dartmouth. Mountbatten was born at Frogmore House in Windsor, which will become Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s future home.
He was assassinated by the IRA in 1979, and his death rocked the royal family to its core.
