Prince Charles ‘Frowned Upon’ William, Harry’s Closeness To Palace Staff For This Reason
Prince Charles reportedly frowned upon Prince William and Prince Harry’s active involvement in everything that was happening in Kensington Palace.
Princess Diana’s former protection officer, Ken Wharfe, told Express that the future King was not also pleased with how close his sons were to the palace staff. The heir to the throne believed that palace aides shouldn’t be a part of his sons’ everyday life.
“William and Harry were very much involved in everything that happened at Kensington Palace and Highgrove and this was sometimes frowned upon by the Prince, who couldn’t believe that the downstairs staff was a part of their life. He was of the opinion that the chef’s palace was the kitchen, the policemen in their rooms, the chauffeur in the garage,” he said.
On the contrary, Princess Diana had a very different stand when it came to Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship with the palace staff. Wharfe said that his former boss wanted her sons to feel like the royal staff was a part of their family.
“This was alien to Diana. Having met her late father, Earl Spencer, I know what he wanted was for everyone to be part of this big family… Prince Charles was too royal to want that to happen, but in the end, I think he relented because it was a bit of a lost cause,” Wharfe said.
Meanwhile, this isn’t the only instance wherein Prince Charles and Princess Diana showed their very different stand on a particular matter. When Prince William and Prince Harry were still young, Princess Diana thought that it would be fun to take her sons to a joke shop.
The royal siblings purchased a stink bomb that they set off in the hall of the palace. Another stink bomb was set off inside Prince Charles’ office. The heir to the throne didn’t think that his son’s prank was funny, but Princess Diana just laughed at what her boys did.
