Prince Charles ‘Lacks Sensitivity’ For Hiding Past With Camila From Princess Diana

Prince Charles lacked sensitivity for hiding a crucial past from Princess Diana.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall dated before they married their first spouses Princess Diana and Andrew Parker Bowles, respectively. However, Prince Charles didn’t inform Princess Diana that Camilla was an ex-girlfriend.

According to Penny Junor in her 2017 book “The Duchess: The Untold Story,” Prince Charles didn’t explain to Princess Diana at the beginning of their relationship that Camilla was a former flame. He just introduced her as a friend.

“He had not handled things well. It didn’t occur to him that she needed to know before someone else told her,” Junor wrote. “He made a huge mistake.”

Junor continued saying that one can sympathize to Princess Diana as Prince Charles was the “architect of the disaster.” She added that Prince Charles felt that “different standards apply to him” because he wasn’t allowed to marry the love of his life. He felt that he just had to produce heirs for the nation.

Junor pointed out Prince Charles’ lack of sensitivity and how he’s very objective but not subjective. Due to this, he couldn’t understand the complexities of Princess Diana’s feelings.

Prince Charles broke Princess Diana’s heart during their honeymoon when he wore cufflinks from Camilla. The accessory featured two entwined C’s that reportedly represented the first letters of their names.

For Junor, if she would be brutally honest, she felt that Prince Charles failed to show “huge emotional intelligence.” She also found it so stupid for Prince Charles to take photographs of Camilla during their honeymoon.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s honeymoon was disastrous. The future king spent more time reading and painting instead of attending to his wife. One time, Prince Charles was painting and left for half an hour to look for something. When he returned, his painting and art materials were all destroyed by Princess Diana.

In related news, Camilla and Prince William’s first meeting was unplanned. The Duke of Cambridge just rang the palace that he was coming at the time even though they were not expecting him to show up that day. Prince Charles gave Camilla and Prince William the opportunity to talk by leaving them alone in a room. Their encounter was friendly, but Camilla was so anxious and reportedly asked for a “gin and tonic” when she went outside the room.
