Prince Charles May Face Brutal Backlash When ‘The Crown’ Covers ‘Diana Years’
Although fans have enjoyed watching the Netflix series “The Crown,” the popular show may turn viewers against Prince Charles in the upcoming season. The new episodes of Season 4 are expected to cover the Prince of Wales’ relationship with Princess Diana.
So far, the show has been relatively kind to Charles, which has caused viewers to admire the prince. However, Josh O’Connor, the actor who plays the royal on the series, claims viewers will see the heir in a different light.
According to Express UK, “The Crown” Season 4 will not only cover Prince Charles’ relationship with Princess Diana, but it will also explore his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. “Well, it’s the Diana years, so we know that period so well,” he revealed.
“And, in terms of Charles himself, if series three was to make people feel empathy and sorry for him, I guess we’re going to pull the rug from under him in the next series.”
O’Connor admitted that playing Prince Charles onscreen has changed his opinion about the royal family. “I feel real sympathy for them as individuals, and that is what ‘The Crown’ is about. Ultimately, this is drama, it’s fiction, it’s not the reality,” he confessed.
The actors on the show haven’t received advice from members of the royal family about portraying their lives. However, O’Connor believes Prince Charles would approve have positive feedback about the first three seasons of the series.
“It would have to be good. Because, let’s face it, we’re really nice about him. Next series, maybe not so much, but in series three we’ve been pretty cool to him so, I mean, he’s got to get on board with it,” the actor explained.
The first three seasons of “The Crown” is available to stream on Netflix. A release date for Season 4 has not been confirmed.
