Prince Charles Not Giving Throne To Prince William Amid Queen Elizabeth Retirement Rumors
Rumors continue to persist that Queen Elizabeth is pondering stepping down and retiring from her duties as Queen when she celebrates her 95th birthday. However, what many are wondering is just who would fill in as the new monarch if she does.
While Prince Charles is her official heir as her eldest son and has even been tapped by the monarch herself as the next King of England, according to Express UK, many are wondering if he will actually take on the role, or if he will actually abdicate in favor of his popular son and own heir, Prince William.
According to the University College of London’s Constitution Unit, it is unlikely Prince Charles would consider the move, but the possibility of it happening is real, mainly because he has been waiting for so long to take on his role, and is already in his 70s.
“Having waited over 60 years as heir apparent, it would be perfectly natural for Prince Charles to want to assume the throne an perform the royal duties for which he has spent so long preparing in waiting,” the Unit told Express UK. “But it would be equally natural, if, after reigning for a few years as an increasingly elderly monarch, he chose to invite Parliament to hand on the throne to Prince William.”
However, the chances of that happening are still slim, due to the royal family’s traditions, which are still a big part of their lifestyle even as they try to project a more modern image. In addition, It is worth noting that age wouldn’t keep Prince Charles from staying on the throne as long as he was in good health, as his mother has set an example for it. She is still serving as the official monarch at 93-years-old and has only delegated some tasks to Prince Charles and others.
The rumors also come on the heels of reports that Prince Charles is actually dying from a heart condition, and that Queen Elizabeth was also sick and bypassing her son as heir because she had fears that both their deaths would destabilize the monarchy as a whole. Those reports, however, are likely false.
