Prince Charles, Princess Diana’s Wedding Wouldn’t Have Happened If This Person Hadn’t Died
Prince Charles and Princess Diana tied the knot in 1981, but their wedding wouldn’t have pushed through if one of Prince Charles’ relatives hadn’t passed away years earlier.
In the book “The Firm,” royal biographer Penny Junor said that if Prince Charles’ uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten, hadn’t gotten killed in an IRA bombing, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ wedding two years later wouldn’t have happened.
“Charles’ former secretary Michael Colborne is convinced that if Lord Mountbatten, murdered by the IRA in 1979, had still been alive a year later, Charles and Diana would never have married. He is probably right,” she said.
Junor pointed out the fact that Mountbatten had such a huge influence on the future King, and they also have a very close relationship with each other. As such, Mountbatten would’ve easily talked Prince Charles out of marrying the late royal.
In the documentary “The Story of Diana,” royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith said that when Mountbatten was still alive, he gave Prince Charles shocking advice.
“The advice that Dickie Mountbatten gave him was, ‘Have as many affairs as possible, he should sow his wild oats, and then find a sweet, charactered girl to put on a pedestal and marry her,’” Junor said.
Meanwhile, Princess Diana also made headlines this week after the reason why she never remarried after her divorce from Prince Charles was revealed. While speaking with Daily Mail, royal expert Ingrid Seward revealed that Prince Harry used to beg his mom to give him another sibling because he was fed up about being the youngest.
Princess Diana told Prince Harry that it was difficult to have another child because she wasn’t married to anyone. Prince Harry wanted his mom to get married again, but Prince William opposed the idea. The second in line to the throne wanted his late mom to be all there for him.
