Prince Charles Reportedly Worried About Harry After Son Left Career He Loved
Prince Charles was reportedly worried about Prince Harry when he gave up the career he loved.
Prince Charles was concerned about the Duke of Sussex when he left the army. The Prince of Wales feared that his youngest son would end up like his war veteran brother, Prince Andrew, who struggled to find a role as a working royal after he left the royal navy and eventually damaged his reputation with the public.
“At first the Prince of Wales in particular raised concerns about his youngest son leaving the career he loved and was so good at,” Duncan Larcombe wrote on “Prince Harry: The Inside Story.” “It was his view that the Army gave Harry both a focus and a purpose. But in the end, the senior royals agreed that it was a decision only Harry could make.”
Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II’s concern about Prince Harry’s future was rooted in the Duke of York’s experience after leaving the navy. Prince Andrew couldn’t find a suitable role for him and became a trade envoy where he earned the nickname “Air Miles Andy ” for his outrageous travel expenses. He was involved in a string of controversies that ruined his reputation.
In 2015, Prince Harry explained his decision to leave the army. According to him, it was “crossroads.” Prince William’s brother admitted that most people in his year group or rank had also left the army for numerous reasons. He was in the same position as most of them would be in.
“It is the case that if we move on then more responsibilities come, and I suppose with wanting to take on slightly more of this royal role I don’t really feel as though I would be in the right position to take on the careers of more soldiers and to take on the responsibility to fly, for instance,” Prince Harry said.
Prince Harry is now a husband and a father of one. He had wild teenage years but transformed to be a responsible family man. Many are very happy for Prince Harry’s changes.
In fact, due to his transformation, Queen Elizabeth II approved his marriage to Meghan Markle. According to Andrew Morton, if Prince Harry was still an “angry drunk with poor judgment” when he introduced Markle to the Queen, Her Majesty wouldn’t give her support to him in marrying a divorced American actress and their meeting would end up in a “grim, unhappy confrontation.”
