Prince George’s Play Dates Need To Be Vetted By Security
The average parent might look up a potential play date’s neighborhood or check out their parents on social media. Of course, Prince George’s parents are anything but average. The third in line to the throne has his playdates go through a security process before coming over after school.
According to The Sun, George is making plenty of friends at school. He’s apparently quite popular with the other 6-year-olds at Thomas’s Battersea, and he invites some over to play at his home, Kensington Palace.
Parents Prince William and Kate Middleton want to give George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis a childhood that is as normal as possible. That means they welcome the children’s friends over—but they can’t ignore security protocol.
“It is wonderful for them – and their parents – to go to such a beautiful and historic palace and have the run of the place,” a royal insider said. “But it does involve a bit more planning than a normal play date, as everyone visiting the palace has to be security vetted.”
Even though there is a process involved as a safety precaution, it sounds like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge try not to let that get in the way of George’s socializing. In fact, sources have even said they prefer inviting people over so they don’t risk the children getting photographed.
“Kate can’t take George to public playdates for fear they will get photographed. She entertains a lot at Kensington Palace, but the Queen is also happy for her family to use Windsor when she’s not in residence,” an insider told Vanity Fair in 2014.
While George is already popular at school, his sister Charlotte, 4, is just getting used to Thomas’s Battersea. She started at the private school just a couple of weeks ago. However, judging by her outgoing personality at Willcocks Nursery — where she earned the nickname Warrior Princess — she’ll likely make friends quickly.
