KEY POINTS

  • Prince Harry wrote in "Spare" that he was in Eton when he was informed that the Queen Mother had died
  • Several outlets previously reported that Prince Harry, Prince William and King Charles were on a ski trip at the time
  • The inconsistency has led some to question whether other parts of Harry's book could be factually incorrect

Prince Harry's book "Spare" has some inaccuracies, according to a report.

Following the release of his memoir Tuesday, the Duke of Sussex was called out online over an apparent error about his great-grandmother's death.

In the book, Prince Harry, 38, recalled the moment he was informed about the death of Elizabeth the Queen Mother in March 2002. According to him, he was at his U.K. boarding school, Eton, when he learned that Queen Elizabeth II's mother died in her sleep at the age of 101.

"At Eton, while studying, I took a call. I wish I could remember whose voice was at the other end; a courtier's, I believe," he wrote.

He added, "I recall that it was just before Easter, the weather was bright and warm, light slanting through my window, filled with vivid colors. Your Royal Highness, the Queen Mother has died."

However, several reports contradicted his story that he was at school at the time of the Queen Mother's passing, Page Six reported.

According to multiple news outlets, including the BBC, Harry was actually on a ski trip in Klosters, Switzerland, with his father, King Charles III, and his brother, Prince William, at the time.

There are also photos that show Prince Harry returning to the U.K. from Switzerland a day after his great-grandmother's passing, according to Page Six.

Biographer, reporter and Evening Standard royal editor Robert Jobson called Prince Harry's "flowery passage" about the Queen Mother's death "pure fantasy" on Twitter.

"I was there. He was in Klosters skiing with his dad and brother. The flowery passage is pure fantasy, Made up. I know because I was in Klosters at the time too. They flew from Zurich," he tweeted.

GB News royal reporter Cameron Walker claimed that the inconsistency "raises questions and concerns" about Prince Harry's memoir, including whether there are any other mistakes in the book.

Some social media users also called into question Prince Harry's credibility.

"Harry can't even remember where he was when the Queen Mother died, so his recollections are not to be trusted. And he has an agenda, so there's a lack of impartiality," one person tweeted.

"Yet it's day one since the #SpareUs release and already it's clear Harry fabricated huge portions of the book from whole cloth to support his fake victimhood," another Twitter user claimed.

Another Twitter user echoed the same sentiment, claiming: "Even if he didn't remember exactly, it's something that is pretty damn easy to check. I think he's trying to give another dig at the family because he says a courtier called him. You know, 'poor Harry, his family couldn't be bothered to call him.'"
