Prince Harry Celebrates World Mental Health Day With Adorable Service Dog Cooper
Prince Harry recently celebrated World Mental Health Day by meeting with an adorable service dog named Cooper.
According to People, Cooper, 2, helps his owner, former Marine Phil Eaglesham, with practical tasks such as opening doors and loading the washing machine. Upon seeing Prince Harry, the Labrador-Retriever mix immediately recognized him. A photo of Prince Harry with Cooper was also posted online by the website.
While speaking with the publication, Eaglesham revealed that his dog became over excited at the sight of the prince. “Dogs are a very good judge of character – they can smell when something is wrong,” he said. Eaglesham was just one of the many others who joined Prince Harry at St. James Palace to commemorate the World Mental Health Day.
“We all look up to him. He’s young and been in war zones and has experienced being in the same sort of areas. And that means a lot to veterans who may be struggling. He knows what people are going through,” Eaglesham said.
Meanwhile, also present at the successful gathering were Prince William and Kate Middleton. They, together with Prince Harry, created Heads Together, an umbrella group for several charities focused on reducing the stigma with regards to mental health issues.
During his speech, the Duke of Cambridge revealed that it was his wife who realized that they were all doing individual efforts at promoting mental health. “She had seen that at the cord of adult issues like addiction and family breakdown, unresolved childhood mental health issues were often part of the problem,” he said.
Additionally, Prince Harry also wants to employ various mental health strategies for the members of the armed forces so that they could do better at their jobs. While speaking with The Guardian one day before World Mental Health Day, Prince Harry said, “Quite simply, these men and women are prized assets which to be continually invested in. We surely have to think of them as high-performance athletes, carrying all their kit, equipment and a rifle. Crucially, fighting fitness is not just about physical fitness. It is as much about mental fitness too.”
