  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle no longer receive financial assistance from the royal family
  • The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their multimillion dollar deal with Netflix last week
  • Prince Harry and Markle took out a $9.5 million mortgage for their Montecito mansion

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to be financially independent when they announced their royal exit and they have now achieved that, according to an insider.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex used to be full-time working royals and at the time they were funded by the Sovereign Grant. When they decided to step back from their royal roles, they announced that they wanted to work and be "financially independent." An insider has now claimed the couple is no longer receiving financial aide from the royal family.

A source close to the Sussexes told People that they have been handling their finances when they moved to California. In fact, they paid for their security costs, but Prince Charles was still helping with some ongoing living costs. However, that ended when the couple closed a multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix last week. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now financially independent because they are "no longer receiving any financial support," the source said.

In July, Prince Harry and Markle also moved to their $14 million mansion in Montecito. The couple didn’t ask for help from the royal family for the purchase because they allegedly didn’t want the members of the Firm to have a reason to control them. So, they took out a $9.5 million mortgage to buy the property.

"There's been a lot of speculation about Prince Charles potentially funding this. But this is really a moment for them to find their independence. They've done this on their own," royal correspondent Omid Scobie told Entertainment Tonight.

"Like many couples, they have a mortgage. It is a peaceful home. It's a forever home and somewhere where they'll lay their roots. It has space for Archie, a playground. Really, it's gonna be a special part of their life.”

Prince Harry and Markle's home has been approved by a realtor expert. According to Cristal Clarke, a luxury property specialist, Montecito is "one of the safest and most family-friendly communities." So, it's the best place to raise their son, Archie. The place also supports the ideal lifestyle that the couple has been craving for.

"They were craving a smaller community and a slower pace — Montecito is very mellow, a charming little town and the Santa Barbara [area] offers an ideal lifestyle that they’re looking forward to," a source told People.
