“Finding Freedom,” the new book that details the exit of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from the royal family, has achieved a monumental feat in the first week of its release. The unofficial biography of the former royal couple has topped the U.K. Official Top 50 chart.
The book, which has stunned the world by coming out with new details about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sold more than 31,000 copies in the first five days of its release, The Bookseller reported citing the numbers from Nielsen.
The book also claimed the second spot in the Amazon U.K. charts. Interestingly, the publication skyrocketed to number one in Amazon’s “Biographies of the Rich and Famous” category.
The book addressed a lot of issues that Harry and Markle faced during their time with the royal family. Written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, the unofficial biography revealed how Markle tried her best to fit into the royal family before taking the bold decision of leaving.
Some of the excerpts that were leaked before the release stated that the couple took the decision to step back from their respective roles after having a sour relationship with the members of the royal family.
"While they both respected the hierarchy of the institution, it was difficult when they wanted to focus on a project and were told that a more senior ranking family member, be it, Prince William or Prince Charles, had an initiative or tour being announced at the same time—so they would just have to wait," the authors wrote.
However, it was revealed recently that the book made the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry even worse than before.
A source told US Weekly that the book is creating more tension between the royal siblings. “‘Finding Freedom’ has made things worse between them,” the source was quoted as saying by the media outlet.
It has been already been confirmed that the couple has nothing to do with the book and was never interviewed for the same.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to 'Finding Freedom'. This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting,” the Sussexes' spokesperson said.
