Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Released New Photos To Humiliate Royal Family: Royal Biographer
KEY POINTS
- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are building the Meghan brand with their latest move
- Tom Bower claimed that everything was about money and to the Sussexes' advantage
- Bower noted that there's only one interest, and that's Markle outside of the royal family
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sent a message to the royal family that they were back on course to build their brand, according to a report.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released two new photos two days after Buckingham Palace shared the photo of the new fab four, featuring King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton. British journalist and investigative reporter Tom Bower believed that the move aimed to humiliate the royal family.
"It was all about, we're back now on course to build Brand Meghan and the book, the Netflix series, the podcast," Bower told Page Six. "Everything is money. And to their advantage, they were in the public eye for seven days during the funeral or more, every day they were filmed."
Bower recounted Prince Harry and Markle's appearance during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June where they had minimal exposure. They were barely seen and were not allowed to make a balcony appearance.
During the four-day event, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex only attended two events. They also received a mix of boos and cheers when they showed up at St. Paul's Cathedral for the Service of Thanksgiving on June 3. It was their first public outing after stepping away from their royal duties.
"They were shuffled off to a window upstairs and hardly seen," Bower said pointing out that "they were center stage" during the Queen's funeral.
"You know, she has really got one interest," he continued. "And that's Meghan, and the casualties are the royal family and as far as she's concerned, that's terrific."
Vanity Fair royal editor Katie Nicholl also commented on Prince Harry and Markle's photos. According to her the timing of the release was notable and they seemingly sent a message to the firm's members.
"It's all in the timing, isn't it? It does sort of have a sense of 'anything you can do we can do too,'" Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight.
"It said, 'This is the future of the monarchy.' Of course, so notable by their absence [were] Harry and Meghan. So it didn't surprise me to see an image of them so soon after."
She added that the Sussexes were making a point — that they are "visible" and "not going anywhere." Nicholl also pointed out that the photos were taken last month, so they were not new. If they really wanted to share them, they had already released them by then.
