Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Want Public To Think There’s A ‘Rift’ With Queen Elizabeth
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from the royal family shocked fans around the world. Although their announcement also surprised members of the royal family, a royal expert claimed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have used the media to manipulate the public into believing there is a rift in their relationship with Queen Elizabeth.
After the couple announced their plans to step back from their roles as senior royals, Queen Elizabeth released a statement explaining that Harry and Meghan would no longer be working members of the royal family.
However, after the couple revealed their trademarking requests for “Sussex Royal” was removed, they released a statement that had outsiders outraged by the way they criticized Queen Elizabeth.
Katie Nicholl told True Royalty she was surprised by the way the couple reacted to losing their ability to use the name “Sussex Royal” on their nonprofit organizations and upcoming projects.
“I just wonder if issuing a big, lengthy statement like that…I think it is abrasive in parts. I just don’t understand why they do that. Because then they feed that narrative of a rift in the media, and why do it?” Nicholl questioned.
Nicholl explained that while their statement about the loss of their trademarking requests appeared to be a jab at Queen Elizabeth, it also showed the couple’s feelings of “unhappiness” since announcing their royal exit.
“It struck me as slightly abrasive. It didn’t strike me as ‘we’ve sorted everything out, this feels very smooth, and we’re happy with how everything is,’” Nicholl shared.
“When you look at the statement that was released earlier on in the week, the rumors of them losing the ability to use royal – if you wanted to just put something out that felt very anodyne and ‘yes, we’re going along with this, we’re very, very happy to do it,’ you’d have sent something out quite different,” she added.
Instead, Nicholl claimed that Meghan and Harry appeared to express their feelings of contempt about their exit. “It’s interesting to hear from them directly, and I think it was very useful because we’re not used to getting these lengthy statements,” she said
“In that respect, it was quite an interesting insight into how they feel, how they thought it was going to work. But to me it, I thought this is a couple who doesn’t feel particularly happy about how this has been handled.”
Meghan and Prince Harry are expected to officially step away from their senior royal roles on March 31.
