Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have to follow at least one strict royal when they head to Australia on Oct. 16.

Myka Meier, an etiquette expert, told the Daily Star that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may be required to sit away from each other when they attend formal gatherings during their overseas trip.

“They will be seated very strategically at these formal banquets. Couples are usually in many cultures not sat together, they are sat very strategically next to people who are deemed to be very important. You would seat someone who had similar interests or status. They are likely to be sat apart. Both of them are known to be extraordinary conversationalists and they are quite used to it,” she said.

And before their upcoming royal tour, Markle is expected to receive crucial tips and advice from palace aides. This way, everything will go smoothly during their 16-day tour.

“Whoever they are greeted by, they will be in advance fully prepped on who they are meeting, the correct formal greeting whether it is physical or verbal, likely both. That will be hugely important and will be something that the royal aides will take care of ahead of time,” Meier said.

On top of this, the royal couple will also be briefed on the different cultures they will encounter, and this will normally take place while on the plane.

“If they had any questions they would use this time to make sure they are ready to go as soon as they get off the plane. That’s the moment their royal duty starts again. You always adopt the etiquette and protocol of the country you are in. They will do whatever is customary in the country they land in. We saw the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge doing the nose kiss in order to show respect,” she said.

Prince Harry and Markle will also go to Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, and New Zealand this month.
