Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in Windsor is expected to be a fun and peaceful event. But this cannot be said about the homeless residing on the streets.

Kelly Carpenter, who runs a pub across Windsor Castle, seemingly agreed with Simon Dudley’s stand on using legal powers to clear the homeless from the streets of Windsor before and during Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding.

“It’s not just because they are homeless and we don’t want them there, although it doesn’t look great for tourists when they are always being asked for money. They are a security threat. Anyone could be hiding under those blankets,” Carpenter said.

USA Today visited Windsor in early February, and the publication saw about half a dozen people in sleeping bags. The publication also noted that layers of clothing are seen in areas where Prince Harry and Markle are expected to go through on their wedding day so they could greet their fans.

Meanwhile, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead are expected to impose public space protection orders (PSPOs), which will ban homeless individuals from begging, requesting for money, leaving their beddings on public areas in and around Windsor.

Breaches of the PSPO would lead to a $140 fine, and offenders could be required to pay up to $1400. The fines are reportedly part of a new homeless support strategy that was created to lessen or eradicate the homeless people in Windsor by March.

However, this is the second time that Windsor came under fire for their aggressive attempts at removing the homeless from the streets. The spokesman for the council said that they will not simply remove the homeless from the streets. Rather, they will try to provide them with care and support.

“Every rough sleeper has complex and personal needs that we work to address on an individual basis. As part of the developing strategy we will look at what support is offered by the borough and other organizations,” the spokesman told BBC.
