Prince Harry, Meghan's Trip To Australia Similar To Princess Diana, Charles' Tour
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's upcoming trip to Australia is somehow similar to Prince Charles and Princess Diana's 1983 tour.
Zoe Forsey, editor of the Mirror, recently noted that just like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Princess Diana and Prince Charles' first royal trip as a married couple in 1983 was to Australia. Similar to Markle, it was actually Princess Diana's first tour as a member of the royal family too.
The Prince and late Princess of Wales had visited many places together. In one photo from their many trips together, they could be seen at Alice Springs Airport with the princess carrying Prince William. There were also snaps of them with the Ayers Rock behind them.
Princess Diana looked happy during the entire trip. In fact, the couple appeared loved up. They even danced at a charity ball in Sydney and were also seen holding hands during their trip.
While their first trip together appeared to be great, their last had a very different tone. When Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited South Korea in November 1992, just weeks before their separation was announced, they couldn't fake displaying mutual affection even in public. In fact, they reportedly ignored each other.
"They arrived in Korea with orders to present the image of a loving couple," James Whitaker, Mirror's correspondent on the trip, reported from Seoul. "Instead, stony-faced, they ignored each other, not even exchanging a look. Their eyes never met. There was no physical contact. It was as if they were two strangers."
Prince Harry and Markle are very tactile, so it's expected that they will also hold hands during their trip. Since the upcoming tour is only a few days away, the Duchess of Sussex has already prepared for it.
According to Mehera Bonner of Cosmopolitan, Markle's training was "intense." An entire team of aides is reportedly helping her out.
"As a senior member of the Royal family, she is a working royal with roles and responsibilities to fulfill on behalf of the family," Myka Meier said. "In order to show respect to the people she is meeting, she will be briefed ahead of each event on the Senior people she will be meeting and how to greet and address them, solely in order to show respect. From assisting her with what to wear all the way to important topics to speak about, she will have help to ensure she is fully prepared."
