Prince Harry and Prince William's gestures during their reunion at Prince Philip's funeral over the weekend hinted that reconciliation is possible, a body language expert has suggested.
The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex did not walk side-by-side during the procession for their grandfather's funeral service in Windsor Castle Saturday. However, body language expert Elaine Swann told Us Weekly Monday that the royal siblings showed subtle signs that they still care for each other amid their rumored rift, noting that Prince William leaning in toward his younger brother was a "very hopeful sign."
Prince Charles and Princess Diana's sons exited St. George's Chapel together with Kate Middleton. The royal trio chatted as they walked, but the Duchess of Cambridge stayed to the side of them so the two brothers could talk directly.
"William did his best to open his body language toward his brother," Swann explained. "You have to look at the fact that he turned it toward him. And so, in that opening, that’s saying, ‘Come on in. Let’s talk, let’s chat.’ He didn’t walk side by side, but he actually turned toward his brother."
According to the Swann School of Protocol founder, Prince Harry and Prince William were showing signs of reconciliation in the way they approached each other after the memorial service.
"When you know that you have offended or maybe upset your older sibling, then you’re going to do what you can to kind of make it right," the expert continued. "You recognize two siblings trying to pull it together. I think Harry was doing his best to say, 'Hey, you know, bro, we’re, we’re still here. I’m still here. I still love you.'"
Judi James, another body language, also examined their behavior during and after the funeral service. In her analysis, what the two princes showed was "a genuine moment of unity rather than something contrived for the cameras."
Meanwhile, royal author Katie Nicholl credited Middleton for her husband and brother-in-law's apparently friendly reunion. The royal expert told Entertainment Tonight she believes Duchess Kate played "an important role in getting the brothers to the point where they were able to engage in a conversation."
"It's always been my understanding that behind the scenes, Kate has tried very hard to forge a rapprochement and act as a peacemaker between William and Harry," Nicholl said.
