Although Prince Harry often appears to be in great spirits when he is photographed alongside Prince Charles, the Duke of Sussex previously had a strained relationship with his father.

Before he married Meghan Markle and became a father to baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Harry was a young royal looking to have a good time. However, his fun turned into a scandal after he got in trouble for underage drinking.

In the book, “The Firm”, Penny Junor claimed Harry was caught drinking and smoking marijuana. “In January 2002 another extraordinary story came out of St James’ Palace,” she explained.

“The Prince of Wales had taken his younger son to visit a drugs rehabilitation center after he confessed to smoking cannabis. The story had come directly from the Prince’s office. Prince Harry had been drinking underage, and after-hours in the Rathbone Inn in Sherston, near Highgrove, as well as smoking cannabis.”

The incident reportedly occurred while Prince Harry was home from boarding school. However, once Charles learned of his son’s behavior, he took action.

“Prince Charles had discovered, the previous November, what had been going on, while he had left Harry home alone during the school holidays, and had handled the incident well, so the story went,” Junor wrote.

“He had taken him for a short sharp shock to Featherstone Lodge in south London to talk to recovering drug addicts. What could have been a wholly negative story had a positive spin. Charles had handled the nightmare scenario – one that every parent with a teenager dreads – and reacted well.”

Although the Prince of Wales’ quick thinking salvaged his and Harry’s reputation, it damaged his relationship with his son. In her 2017 biography, “The Duchess,” Junor claimed Harry was upset with the way his father handled the scandal.

“Harry had, in fact, once visited a rehab center, but not with his father – and not because his father was worried about him. Charles had no idea what either of his sons got up to, and Harry bitterly resented being made to look bad, so his father could look good,” the royal biographer wrote.

“Worse, he was furious that the blame for leading him astray should have fallen on Guy Pelly, a good friend of both princes, whose reputations was trashed.”

During his youth, Harry’s scandals earned him a party prince label by the media. Over the years, the royal began to change his ways and started a family with his wife, Meghan.
