Prince Harry has given updates on meeting Queen Elizabeth, saying he wanted to make sure she was "protected and got the right people around her."
A preview of his interview with Hoda Kotb showed the Duke of Sussex at the 2022 Invictus Games, sharing a few details about his recent visit to the U.K. and meeting his grandmother at Windsor Castle last week. The interview will air Wednesday on the "Today" show.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle passed through his home country on their way to the Netherlands last week to attend the Invictus Games. During the trip, they paid a surprise visit to the British monarch, who turns 96 on Thursday.
“Being with her, it was great,” said Prince Harry. “It was just so nice to see her. She’s on great form. It was really nice to catch up to her.”
He also told Kotb, while his family is currently residing in the U.S., he regularly checked up on Queen Elizabeth to make sure she was doing well.
“I’m just making sure that she’s, you know, protected and got the right people around her. You know, home — home for me, now, is you know, for the time being, is in the States.”
The Queen has taken a step back from many of her royal duties after testing positive for COVID-19 last February.
In an interview with BBC earlier this week, Prince Harry revealed one of the topics he and Queen Elizabeth discussed during their meeting was the Invictus Games, which he started in 2014.
“She had plenty of messages for Team U.K., which I have already passed on to most of them,” he told BBC. “So, it was great to see her. I’m sure she would love to be here if she could.”
Prince Harry and Meghan also saw Prince Charles during their brief visit to the U.K., which marked the couple’s first joint visit to the country since announcing they were stepping back from their royal duties in 2020. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly traveled from Los Angeles without their children, Archie and Lilibet.
Prince Harry has made a few solo visits to the U.K. over the past two years. He had joined Prince William in unveiling a statue of their late mother, Princess Diana, at the Kensington Palace in July, after attending the funeral of Prince Philip.
