Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, reportedly, stepped down as senior royals to escape the scrutinizing eyes of the British media and to focus more on raising their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. At the moment, the Sussex family is, allegedly, on self-quarantine in Los Angeles amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the younger brother of Prince William adores and loves spending quality time with Archie, he, reportedly, never wanted his son to grow up like a royal.
Dr. Jane Goodall, an 86-year-old anthropologist, revealed to Daily Mail’s Weekend Magazine that she, already, knew Harry and Meghan are ditching the royal life long before they announced their exit plans in January. She even recounted the time when the Duke of Sussex, allegedly, revealed he did not want Archie to grow under royal standards and protocols.
“At the end [of the conversation] Meghan came in to listen with Archie. He was very tiny and very sleepy – not too pleased to be passed from his mummy. I think I was one of the first to cuddle him outside the family,” Jane told the publication. “I made Archie do the Queen’s wave, saying, ‘I suppose he’ll have to learn this.’ Harry said, ‘No, he’s not growing up like that,’” she continued.
To recall, Business Insider suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle not giving their son a royal title is already a sign that they were ready to leave the royal family. Many royal followers were shocked when the Sussex pair first announced their decision to use the Mountbatten-Windsor surname instead of a royal title. They even kept details of Archie’s birthplace, christening ceremony and the names of his godparents a secret.
The news outlet, also, shared that splitting from Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Royal Foundation to create their own charity is another sign that Meghan and Prince Harry were, already, preparing for the infamous ‘Megxit.’ Kensington Palace announced the Sussex pair’s decision to officially step down from the charitable organization in 2019, adding fuel to the rumors that there is a rift between them and the Cambridges.
Early this year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry publicized their plans to stay away from the limelight for good to live a simpler life in North America. "We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honor our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said at the time.
“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity,” they went on.
Both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have yet to comment on Dr. Jane Goodall’s statements.
