Prince Harry’s recent attempts to make a stand and to protect his wife, Meghan Markle, have backfired. A journalist said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex seem to be misguidedly living their lives as celebrities and not as members of the royal family.

In an article that she penned for The Sun, journalist Jane Moore said that the new dad shouldn’t have also used Princess Diana as his weapon to shut down valid criticisms directed at him and Markle.

Moore said that the Princess of Wales was friends with some of the journalists of her time, and she was also quite media-savvy. And even though the late royal also received tons of negative press and she was also followed by the paparazzi, Princess Diana did not make the mistake of judging all of them by the actions of a few.

But in his recent statement, Prince Harry seemingly generalized his complaints about the media and the paparazzi. He said that they have overstepped their boundaries and that they have also infringed his wife’s copyright after her private letters to Thomas Markle Sr. were published.

Moore said that if Prince Harry and Markle expect privacy from the press, they should also consider giving up their royal title and all the perks that go with it. When this happens, they would be forced to find full-time jobs and they will no longer be considered as working royals.

Meanwhile, the journalist also questioned Prince Harry and Markle’s choice of lawyer. The couple hired showbiz Schillings for the job, and Moore said that the group is known for helping famous individuals to ensure that their misdemeanors are not published in the papers.

“A telling sign, perhaps, that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are misguidedly living their lives through the prism of celebrity, rather than royal behavior,” she said.

Royal expert Penny Junor also criticized Prince Harry’s extraordinary move by saying that no other member of the royal family has released a similar statement. He also called Prince Harry’s letter as “over-emotional” and “ill-advised.”
