Prince Harry and Queen Elizabeth II have a close relationship with each other. But in the past, the Duke of Sussex used to take his grandmother for granted.

During his interview with TV personality Katie Couric in 2012, Prince Harry said that when he was younger, it was so easy to take Her Majesty for granted. He and Prince William just saw the monarch as their grandmother and not as the Queen of England.

“It’s really sort of been over the last five, eight, ten years that I have actually really learned to understand and accept the huge deal that she is around the world, especially in the UK,” he said.

Couric asked Prince Harry if he thinks the Queen’s ability to change with the times has helped the monarchy endure, and he said yes. Prince Harry went on to say that the Queen has managed to get the family to move with the times, which is incredibly important.

In the 2014 documentary “Harry at 30,” a royal commentator said that Prince Harry has an incredible relationship with Her Majesty. In fact, the Queen’s relationship with the Duke of Sussex is different from her relationship with his older brother.

“She relies on his enormously now. She loves him to death and trusts him totally… A lot of people don’t realize, he talked the Queen into doing that James Bond stunt [at the Olympics in 2012],” the royal commentator said.

The Queen also reportedly consults with Prince Harry regarding young people’s issues, which means that she asks his grandson about texting, social media, and other things.

Meanwhile, Prince William is also close to the Queen especially since he would one day assume his grandmother’s important role. But unlike Prince Harry, Prince William’s relationship with Her Majesty is half family and half business.

The two have a more serious relationship with each other because they talk about the future of the monarchy.
