Prince Harry’s Proposal To Meghan Markle Reportedly Didn’t Turn Out Like He Wanted
Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle while they were at home in the palace. But it has not been revealed that this wasn’t the Duke of Sussex’s original plan.
In the Channel 5 documentary “Meghan Markle: Movies, Marriage, and Motherhood,” royal correspondent Katie Nicholl said that Prince Harry originally planned to ask for Markle’s hand in marriage while they were in Botswana. But for some reason, this didn’t happen.
“It happened a few weeks later while they were at home at Nottingham Cottage roasting a chicken. Utter domestic simplicity and bliss and incredibly romantic,” she said.
During the couple’s engagement interview with BBC, Prince Harry and Markle shared details from their simple yet memorable engagement. The “Suits” alum said that they were roasting a chicken when Prince Harry went down on his knee and popped the question.
The Duchess of Sussex said that she immediately said yes to Prince Harry even before he finished asking her if she would marry him. Prior to their engagement, the Duke of Sussex also shared details about their trip to Botswana.
He said that he managed to convince Markle to join him on the trip, and they camped out under the stars. South Africa is such an important place for the royal couple that one of the diamonds on Markle’s engagement ring was sourced out from there.
In 2017, new dad Prince Harry told Town & Country that he feels more like himself when he’s in the country. And almost a year before their wedding anniversary, rumors swirled that Markle and Prince Harry would relocate to South Africa with their newborn son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
However, palace sources claimed that there is no truth to the reports. Markle and Prince Harry will continue to reside at Frogmore Cottage and they will also conduct their work at the Buckingham Palace. Previously, the royal couple worked at Kensington Palace with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
