Prince Philip May Not Attend Princess Eugenie’s Royal Wedding For This Reason
Prince Philip may skip Princess Eugenie’s wedding on Oct. 12 for the simple reason that the Duke of Edinburgh does what he wants.
A source told People, “He does what he wants. He made a supreme effort for Harry. I would be very surprised if he did go because he is so estranged from Fergie. I think he will decide at the 99th hour.”
On Thursday, royal biographer Katie Nicholl also said that Prince Philip may refuse to attend Princess Eugenie’s nuptials because he cannot stand to be in the same room as Sarah Ferguson.
Prince Philip managed to keep a straight face when Ferguson attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding on May 19 because Ferguson didn’t sit alongside the other members of the royal family inside the church.
“While Andrew and the couple’s daughters Beatrice and Eugenie were at the front of the church in reserved family pews just behind the Queen, Sarah was relegated to a seat further back in the church, presumably so that she was no insight of Prince Philip,” Nicholl told Vanity Fair.
The royal biographer also said that an insider told her Prince Philip cannot bear to see Ferguson near him.
But it is also important to note that Princess Eugenie is Prince Philip’s granddaughter. And even though the Duke of Edinburgh may have a closer relationship with Prince Harry than Princess Eugenie, the latter would still want her grandfather to be at her royal wedding.
In related news, Ferguson will also re-enter the royal fold with Princess Eugenie’s upcoming wedding. Nicholl said that she and Prince Andrew are responsible for organizing their daughter’s wedding party.
“Sarah is being very hands-on but in a great way, and Eugenie wants her mom to be a big part of it all and will make sure Sarah is included in every aspect. Sarah is bringing a very eclectic and exciting guest list to Windsor,” she said.
