Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II have been married for seven decades but their union is not without difficulties.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans discussed whether or not the Duke of Edinburgh and Her Majesty had a rocky marriage at the start of their union.

Eileen Wood, a real estate assistant, said that it is highly likely that the royal couple faced some difficulties in their marriage even though they have loved each other deeply. This is because no marriage is perfect and no marriage comes without its ups and downs.

But Wood is convinced that the Queen and Prince Philip’s marriage has survived because Her Majesty is a woman of steel.

“Her Majesty may look like a sweet little old lady, but that woman has steel running down her spine. She is one tough cookie… When she first saw Philip, she was 13… She fell in love and there has been no other man in her life or her mind since,” she said.

Sue McCune Martin, an observer of the royal family, said that in the beginning, she thinks the Queen and Prince Philip’s marriage was solid. After all, the Queen joined her husband in Malta where she got to taste what it’s like to have a normal life.

Even after the birth of Prince Charles, Martin said that she thinks Her Majesty and the Duke’s marriage has been solid. But after she was crowned Queen, their marriage became strained.

“How difficult would it be for a proud man to always walk two paces behind his wife and to be refused the right to give his children his name? That’s why he made all decisions about household matters and the children,” she said.

Chris Hawkes, a citizen of the United Kingdom, said that he doesn’t think the Queen and Prince Philip ever had a rocky marriage because what they have for each other is real love.
