Prince Philip Rides Horse After Skipping Remembrance Day Service Due To Health
Prince Philip was photographed riding a horse just one day after the Remembrance Day Service that he didn’t attend with the other members of the royal family.
Martin Coulter, a journalist for Daily Star, revealed that Prince Philip skipped the somber event for the first time in 20 years. Last year, the Duke of Edinburgh still made it to the gathering even though he already retired from his work as a royal months earlier.
But a spokesperson for the palace said that Prince Philip didn’t also attend the service in 1956, 1964, 1968, and 1999. Speculations were rife that Queen Elizabeth II’s wife won’t attend the occasion because of his failing health. But his recent sighting proved that Prince Philip is doing well.
He was photographed riding a horse carriage with two of his female staff. Weeks ago, he also enjoyed one of his favorite past times after attending Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding. Earlier this year, Prince Philip underwent hip surgery and rumors swirled that he won’t be attending Prince Harry’s wedding on May 19.
But to everyone’s surprise, he made it to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle with the Queen. A source told People, “Prince Philip will make his post-surgery debut at his grandson Prince Harry’s royal wedding.”
Royal biographer Duncan Larcombe also said a similar thing earlier this year while speaking with Harper’s Bazaar.
“He is the head of the royal family. Although the Queen is obviously the Queen, he’s the boss, and Harry is very fond of him. I definitely think the Duke of Edinburgh hopes to be at Harry and Meghan’s wedding, but ultimately he will be following the advice of his doctors. He has an iron will and even though he’s 96, he’s incredibly fit and well in every other regard so no doubt he’s mentally committed to attending. It is a family occasion and he would be enormously disappointed to miss out,” he said.
