Prince Philip once said that it’s safer to not be too popular especially during the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

During a previous interview, the Duke of Edinburgh also said that he wanted to stay close to his roots despite his newfound status as the husband of the reigning monarch.

“In the first years of the Queen’s reign, the level of adulation – you wouldn’t believe it. You really wouldn’t… It could have been corroding… It would have been very easy to play to the gallery, but I took a conscious decision not to do that… Safer not to be too popular… You can’t fall too far,” he said.

But despite Prince Philip’s attempts to keep a low profile, it cannot be denied that he was one of the most popular members of the British clan, especially during his time. Not only is he the husband of the Queen; he has also done a lot of things for the Royal Family.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans said that they believe Prince Philip is popular.

“While some of his ill-judged comments have raised a few eyebrows over the years, none of them were said with any malice. He just didn’t always stop to think before he blurted something out,” Sallie Smythe, an avid reader of royal biographies, said.

Laura Warwick Martin, a former fundraiser, also said that she thinks Prince Philip is very popular. Prince Philip is known for his keen sense of humor, his generosity, and his caring attitude.

Prince Philip retired from his royal duties two years ago. The dad of four recently celebrated his 98th birthday, and he has been spending most of his time away from the palace. Every now and then, he gets to reunite with his wife at home.

On some occasions, the Duke of Edinburgh is photographed riding his horse-drawn carriage while in Windsor. He is usually accompanied by his two female staff during his outings.
