Prince Philip Will Skip Remembrance Day Service For The First Time
Prince Philip will not attend this year's Remembrance Day service.
The Duke of Edinburgh will miss this Sunday's Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph for the first time. According to Luke Hawker, a journalist for Express, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson has already confirmed that there is "no expectation" that the 97-year-old royal will attend the event.
Prince Philip officially retired from his royal duties in May 2017. He also didn't attend the service in Whitehall last year.
Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II watched the war memorial from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office balcony. During the service, Prince Philip seemed unsteady on his feet and had trouble standing.
The annual Remembrance Day service is set on the second Sunday of November every year. All of the senior royals, including Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are expected to be there.
It remains unknown why Prince Philip hasn't confirmed his attendance to the upcoming Remembrance Day event. However, the royal is clearly in good condition. On Monday, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were spotted enjoying horse riding in the grounds of Windsor Castle separately.
The Queen was riding her beloved black Felly pony, Carltonlima Emma. Her pony sported a red poppy to mark the start of Remembrance week. On the other hand, Prince Philip went carriage riding with two black horses in the fields. Two stablewomen joined him for the ride.
The fab four are expected to attend three Remembrance engagements over the weekend. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to attend the annual Royal Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday.
On Sunday, the four royals will reunite again to attend the annual Remembrance Day service. In the evening, they will attend a service to mark the Centenary of the Armistice at Westminster Abbey.
The upcoming event will be Prince Harry and Markle's first public engagement after they returned from their Commonwealth tour. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had just completed their 16-day trip where they visited Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.
