Prince Philip’s ‘Arrogance, Independence’ Criticized Following Car Accident: ‘He Never Learns’
Prince Philip was reportedly arrogant and independent.
A week ago, the Duke of Edinburgh was involved in a car crash. Fortunately, the 97-year-old senior royal was not injured. In fact, just days after the incident, he was caught behind the wheels again without a seatbelt and this didn’t sit well with many, especially his critics.
Journalists Rebecca Hyde and Angela Mollard reacted to the issue on New Idea Magazine’s “Royals” podcast. According to Mollard, it was “baffling” while Hyde pointed out that “he never learns.”
“We’ve long known the character of the Duke of Edinburgh, there is a certain arrogance, and a commendable independence,” Mollard said about Prince Philip. She added that the duke wanted to do things in his own terms. However, she stressed that it’s a different thing when it comes to public safety.
Mollard found the palace’s reaction to the incident interesting because they only said “very little” about it. She also considered it very extraordinary that they had a new Range Rover delivered within two days after the accident. She added that Queen Elizabeth II should have talked to her husband.
However, Darren McGrady, who served as the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s royal chef for several years, reacted to those comments, saying that the Queen should stop Prince Philip from driving because he knew that Prince Philip would never listen to Her Majesty. According to him, Prince Philip will do what he wants, when he wants it and will always do it his own way.
Meanwhile, the victim of the car crash, Emma Fairweather, spoke up and admitted that she felt rejected and ignored after the accident. According to her, no one from the palace contacted her. She heard that Prince Philip wanted to talk to her but was advised against it.
Fairweather wanted Prince Philip to be prosecuted if proven that he violated the law for careless driving. She also commented about Prince Philip’s love for independence.
“He might think he’ll lose his independence if he stops driving,” Fairweather said. “What about my independence?” she asked before adding that she needed her teenage son to help her wash and dress after the incident.
