Prince Philip was recently involved in a car crash near the Sandringham estate. But it has been revealed that his wasn’t the first time that he got into an accident.

Archived footage from 1964 showed a man named Mr. Cooper telling ITN during his interview that he was forced to swerve after seeing Prince Philip driving straight at him. At that time, the Duke of Edinburgh was driving the Queen through the village of Holyport in Berkshire.

“I pulled in at an angle on the road here, and the next thing I see was the Duke’s car – well now I know it was the Duke – it was coming straight for me. I pulled over, as you can see the tire marks, and he swerved and he caught me offside,” Cooper said at that time.

The incident involving Prince Philip reportedly took place just months after Her Majesty gave birth to Prince Edward. Following the accident, Prince Philip got out of his car and asked Cooper how he was doing. He said that he just grazed his knee and Prince Philip immediately went back to his wife who was waiting in the car.

Last week, Prince Philip was involved in another accident, and he was once again lucky enough to not get injured. However, the Duke of Edinburgh left the driver and passenger of the Kia that he collided with bruised and hurt. Two days after the accident, Prince Philip was spotted driving his car without a seatbelt.

In related news, the Duke of Edinburgh also made headlines this week after it was revealed that he has refused to stop driving despite his age of 97. Royal commentator Loni Love joked on “The Real Daytime” that Prince Philip may not want to give up driving so that he could go to different places without having to tell his wife. Love’s speculation came after “The Crown” featured a Gentleman’s club.

However, it is highly unlikely that this is the real reason why Prince Philip hasn’t given up driving.
