Prince William was recently accused of not wanting to be king.

On the online forum site Quora, one royal fan asked why the Duke of Cambridge isn’t sitting on the throne. Angry fans called the question absurd and said that there is no way for the dad of three to sit on the throne since Queen Elizabeth II is still the reigning monarch.

Deanna Eppers said that Prince William wouldn’t be able to take over the throne until after the Queen or Prince Charles dies or abdicates.

“That means Prince William will still not be taking up the Throne. William will be busy being the new Prince of Wales when his father gives up that title and job to be King,” she said.

Leslie Friedrich, a royal writer, said that Prince William is currently second in line to the throne. And since abdication is not a word that’s commonly used by Britons, it is unlikely that the Queen or Prince Charles would give up their reign in favor of Kate Middleton’s husband.

“I think Elizabeth II can easily live another 10 years. Charles will have a short reign because his mother is the longest in history, let’s say 10 years! William will take the Throne when it is his turn- in roughly 20 years, give or take?” she said.

Discussions about Prince William’s future role as King became ripe after the Court Circular revealed that he has only participated in a few royal engagements. The year 2019 is almost over and Prince George’s dad has only conducted 60 royal engagements.

Last year, Prince William attended 121 royal engagements, which is a number that’s far less than what Queen Elizabeth II has accomplished considering her age.

Anti-monarchy group Republic criticized Prince William and the other members of the royal family.

“How can the monarchy survive when the younger generation can’t be bothered to do even the light workload of their parents? It’s not working like the rest of us know it… Their hours include watching sports matches and theatre… But the real question these figures raise is does William want to be king? Or is he just doing the bare minimum to keep his family happy in the hope he can have his cake and eat it?” they said.
