Prince Harry once contemplated about leaving the Army, but his older brother, Prince William, convinced him otherwise.

In the book “Prince Harry: The Inside Story,” royal biographer Duncan Larcombe said that Prince William was such a huge support to his younger brother especially during times of crisis.

The Duke of Cambridge also gave the Duke of Sussex a very sensible reason why he shouldn’t leave the Army even though there were fears that the presence of the latter could expose the British troops to more danger.

“William made it clear to Harry in no uncertain terms that he must not quit the Army. He reminded his brother of how hard he had worked to get through Sandhurst and complete his pre-deployment training with distinction,” he said.

Larcombe added that Prince William thought that Prince Harry quitting the Army could send a very bad signal to everyone. Additionally, leaving his post would also mean undoing all of the things he had already achieved as a young officer.

Prince William told Prince Harry that quitting would make him look like he was spoiled and truculent, so Meghan Markle’s husband just bit his lips and carried on. But several years later, the Duke of Sussex still found himself leaving the job he has always loved.

The announcement came in 2015 and after Prince Harry served in two tours of Afghanistan. According to The Telegraph, the decision came after Prince Harry accepted more duties in Africa in connection with his charity, Sentebale.

Additionally, leaving the Army in 2015 meant that Prince Harry could also pursue more royal engagements and perform more royal duties.

“He has not come to a final decision yet, which is why no announcement has been made about his future. But it is true that he is in the process of coming to a decision about his future, which will very much be informed by the work he is doing at the moment,” a source said at that time.
