He likely knows he’s going to be taking on a lot of responsibility when he takes over the throne and becomes the King of England after the deaths of both his grandmother and father, but Prince William is likely ready for anything that comes his way because he already was handed some big responsibility back when his parents first divorced.

In the resurfaced documentary “Prince William at Thirty,” Princess Diana’s former protection officer, Ken Wharfe, revealed that the stress of her divorce from Prince Charles led to the late royal leaning on her older son quite a bit, which gave him more responsibility as he looked after his mother and tried to find ways to help her cope.

“Diana did put tremendous responsibility on William’s shoulders, as someone to comfort and to talk to and to be with,” he said.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl also opened up about the situation, revealing that it was also difficult for the Prince because he was not only trying to help his mother but was also dealing with the fact that he was becoming a teenager as well.

“There’s one really moving story where Diana was in tears in the bathroom and William was pushing tissues under the door because he could hear her crying,” she said in the documentary. “William was just about to enter those very difficult teenage years and had to do so with the backdrop of his parents’ marriage disintegrating with the most publicly awful way.”

Of course, Prince William’s childhood was always fraught with pressures and stress, as he was an official heir to the throne, while his younger brother, Prince Harry, was not, which meant he was also forced to have more times where he learned about what his future would hold.

In addition, both he and Prince Harry were handed their biggest struggle from their childhoods a year after their parents’ divorce, when their mother tragically died during a car crash in Paris in 1997.
