Prince William, Kate Middleton Have More Followers Than Harry, Meghan Markle
Prince William and Prince Harry officially separated their households earlier this year, and that meant starting a separate Instagram account. However, William and Kate Middleton have more followers than Harry and Meghan Markle, and they just hit a big milestone.
According to Hello!, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Kensington Palace Instagram account just surpassed 10 million followers. That might be surprising after reports indicated that they were losing followers after the Sussex Royal Instagram launched. They reportedly lost over 150,000 followers after the new account was started. However, they obviously recovered from the exodus.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have fewer followers, but they aren’t far behind. At 9.4 million, Sussex Royal has amassed their sizable following much quicker than the Kensington Palace account. While the 10 million viewers have been gathering since January 2015, the Sussexes only launched their account earlier this year.
The royal family has been using social media more and more. Even Queen Elizabeth II joined Instagram earlier this year, signing a post “Elizabeth R” on The Royal Family account. Though the monarch has more power than her grandsons, she doesn’t have nearly as many followers. Her account boasts a mere 6.6 million followers.
Generally, the royal family doesn’t do personal social media accounts. Meghan Markle famously had to shut down all of her accounts after her engagement to Prince Harry (though she is suspected to be a big contributor to the Sussex Royal account). The Duke of York also an official account.
The exception to this rule is for non-working royals. Princess Eugenie has a verified Instagram, but she isn’t a working member of the royal family. She has her own career as an art director.
