Prince William And Kate Middleton To Visit Taj Mahal Like Princess Diana Did 24 Years Ago
Prince William and Kate Middleton are looking forward to their official visit to India when they are scheduled to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra in the northern Indian city of Uttar Pradesh. It was announced that the royal couple will visit the mausoleum on April 16. Their visit comes 24 years after Princess Diana visited the Taj Mahal.
Royal watchers are already speculating that William and Kate might pose for photos in the same spot as William’s mother did when she visited the sacred mausoleum in February, 1992. The Princess of Wales sat on a white marble bench in front of the monument and the photograph clicked there became famous the world over. Di had a moment to herself at the monument where she visited solo.
The British royal couple will be following in the footsteps of Diana during their Agra visit, however one notable difference is that the couple will visit the Taj Mahal together. The Cambridges are also expected to attend most engagements together, as they travel in the cities of Mumbai, Delhi and Assam in April.
On the day Diana visited the Taj Mahal alone, Charles was busy attending a business meeting that could not be rescheduled. Diana was then asked how she felt being at the Taj Mahal. “It was a fascinating experience – very healing,” said Diana.
When asked for further comments Diana smiled and simply said: “Work it out for yourself.” Royal watchers said that the princess’s solo portrait sitting alone outside the Taj Mahal became a hint of what was to come. Though she had a smile on her face, it was intensely brooding in nature. William’s parents announced their separation ten months later and they were officially divorced in 1996.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said of William and Kate’s upcoming visit that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were very much looking forward to their tours of India and Bhutan.
