Prince William once made a heartbreaking confession about his royal life after he was called reluctant by critics. Years ago, Prince Harry and Kate Middleton were also branded as such.

During his interview with Nicholas Witchell for the BBC, the Duke of Cambridge admitted that his royal duties have weighed him down at an early age. At that time, Queen Elizabeth was reported to have performed more royal duties than her younger counterparts.

“I take duty very seriously, and I take my responsibilities very seriously but it’s about finding your own way at the right time and if you’re not careful, the duty can sort of weigh you down an awful lot at an early age,” he said.

Years later, it seems that Prince William’s younger brother was the one who struggled more under the pressures of royal life. Prince Harry just announced his decision to quit the royal family. And a source told People that there will be no turning back for him.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the only heartbreaking confession that Prince William has made as a royal. During the same interview, the Duke of Cambridge admitted that he doesn’t think much about his future role as the king of Britain.

Prince William admitted that being king isn’t at the top of his priority list, and he only contemplates what he would do in the future during his quiet moments. Witchell asked the dad of three if this meant that he spends a lot of time thinking about his future role, and he said no.

“I think the Royal Family has to modernize and develop as it goes along and it has to stay relevant. That’s the challenge for me – how do I make the Royal Family relevant in the next 20 years’ time? It could be 40 years’ time or 60 years’ time. I certainly don’t lie awake at night waiting or hoping for it because it sadly means my family has moved on and I don’t want that,” he said.
