Prince William, Prince Harry Can Do This While Traveling; Prince Charles Didn't
Prince William and Prince Harry have been spotted taking commercial flights during some of the trips. This is something that Prince Charles has not done before.
In 2015, Prince William flew by Ryanair to Scotland, and an eyewitness said that it was refreshing to see a member of the royal family taking a cheap flight. Prince William was accompanied by his bodyguard that time.
Eight years ago, Prince William and Kate Middleton also boarded the economy on Flybe in 2011. The royal couple flew from Edinburgh to Manchester to attend the wedding of Zara Tindall and Mike Tindall.
Prince Harry also joined his brother and sister-in-law on the trip, and he came back from the wedding via easyJet.
Sally Bedell, a royal biographer, said Prince Charles doesn’t follow in his two songs’ footsteps. The future king usually travels via his private plane because he finds it difficult to take first class flights. Prince Charles’ travel budget for 2017 hit over $1.5 million.
Kara Godfrey, a journalist for Express, said that several members of the royal family have flown with British Airways, and Queen Elizabeth II is no exception. Middleton also took the same airline during her first solo tour to the Netherlands. Her mom, Carole Middleton, was a flight attendant for the British Airways, and that is where she met Michael Middleton.
In related news, Prince William and Middleton cannot break a royal travel rule that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are allowed to do. When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have their own children, they can travel with them on the same plane.
Prince William and Middleton cannot travel with their kids on commercial flights in case of emergency. Since Prince George is third in the line of succession, he should be protected from accidents. Despite the unofficial royal rule, Prince William and Middleton traveled with their son and Princess Charlotte to Canada and Australia.
There are rumors suggesting that Prince William asked the Queen to change the rule, and the later has the final say on whether it would be changed, according to BBC.
