Prince William Reportedly Felt ‘Used’ By Prince Charles’ Staff Over Camilla Meeting
Prince William reportedly felt used by Prince Charles’ staff over his first meeting with Camilla Parker Bowles years ago.
The two royals’ first meeting took place in 1998, just 10 months after Princess Diana’s death. Prince William reportedly became upset after details of his private meeting with Prince Charles’ then-girlfriend were revealed to The Sun. The publication, in turn, created a frontpage headline saying that Prince Charles’ mistress has been accepted by the royal family.
The Sun was given a tip-off by Prince Charles’ then-secretary Mark Bowland. And Richard Kay, a royal reporter for the Daily Mail, said that he thinks Prince William got upset with his dad’s staff for the leak.
In the 2015 BBC documentary “Reinventing the Royals,” Kay said that Prince William didn’t like to be used by anybody, and he felt that his dad’s staff used him in that particular moment. Host Steve Hewlett asked Kay at that time if he personally thought that Prince William was being used, and he said yes.
“I think it explained a lot of subsequent years about why he decided to break away from his father’s people,” Kay said.
The royal reporter went on to explain why he thinks the meeting between Prince William and Camilla was leaked specifically to The Sun. He said that the move was clearly a strategy to test the waters and to see what sort of reaction it would get.
“They wanted to see if pro-Diana papers pick up the fuss,” Kay said.
In related news, it has also been revealed that Prince William and Prince Harry had a distant relationship with Camilla. Even though in public they appeared to be close, in private they were reportedly not. Royal biographer Christopher Wilson told Daily Mail that Camilla had a hard time dealing with the family she married into.
The shocking claim came amid reports that Prince William and Prince Harry may have never forgiven Camilla for her affair with Prince Charles while he was still married to their mom.
