Prince William reunited with Queen Elizabeth II in Balmoral sans Kate Middleton ahead of their upcoming tour and engagement.

According to Hello!, the Duke of Cambridge made a surprise appearance in Balmoral. On Sunday, the Queen and second in line to the throne were photographed making their way to Crathie Kirk to attend a church service. The Duchess of Cambridge was noticeably missing from the outing.

Prince William and Queen Elizabeth II’s reunion happened just days ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge first joint royal engagement this autumn. Prince William and Middleton will officially name the U.K.’s new polar research ship, the RSS Sir David Attenborough. They will be joined by Sir David Attenborough, who will also deliver a speech alongside the duke.

Kensington Palace also announced on Twitter that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be attending a special event at the Aga Khan Center on Oct. 2. The event is hosted by His Highness the Aga Khan.

Prince William and Middleton are also bound to visit Pakistan. Their upcoming tour is scheduled to take place from Oct. 14 to 18.

According to royal editor Russell Myers, the future king and queen’s Pakistan tour is significant and historic. He also considered it the biggest trip in terms of the pressure and security aspect due to the hostile environment in the country which makes it risky.

As the Cambridges head to Pakistan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will also be visiting Africa. Duncan Larcombe warned the royals of how their upcoming tours are going to impact them.

“Harry and Meghan are going to Africa and William and Kate to Pakistan. If Harry and Meghan’s trip is a success it will give them a massive boost, but if anything goes wrong they will be compared to William and Kate,” Larcombe said.

“If I were advising them I would use Archie as a trump card and make sure they are photographed with him at least once, which people would love. If both trips go well, the Fab Four will be back on track, albeit it in a different format.”
