Prince William Says Harry Hasn’t Asked Him To Be His Best Man
Prince William recently confirmed that his younger brother, Prince Harry, has not asked him to be his best man.
During his conversation with U.K. radio host Roman Kemp, the Duke of Cambridge said (via People), “He hasn’t asked me yet, just to clear that up. It could be a sensitive subject.”
Last month, reports swirled that Prince Harry asked his brother to be his best man because he also served as his best man at his 2011 wedding. A source was even quoted telling US Weekly, “Harry has several close guy friends, but there’s no way he could ask anyone but Prince William to take on the top job.”
However, the prince himself confirmed that he still has not been asked the very personal question.
Prince William also said that he’s still figuring out what he’s supposed to do since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding will fall on the same day as the F.A. Cup soccer.
Former British soccer star Rio Ferdinand asked Prince William during the interview whether or not he will miss the game to be at his brother’s wedding or vice versa. The duke said that he is still “trying to see what I can do.”
Meanwhile, the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) recently launched the “Best Man Project,” which promotes the idea that men do not have to wait for someone else’s wedding to prove that they are a good friend. Additionally, CALM is aimed at encouraging other to look out for their and their friends’ mental health.
Prince William, who is a passionate advocate on issues involving mental health, opened up about the death of his mom, Princess Diana, in 1997. According to him, the death of the princess made him and Prince Harry closer to each other.
“Losing our mother at a young age, it’s helped us travel through that difficult path together. You’re like-minded. You go through similar things – it’s a bond, and it’s something you know you’ve tackled together and come out better for it. That’s the thing about being a best mate, inevitably one of you is sometimes on an up, while the other is on a down. You’re always there for each other and repaying that favor,” he said.
CALM is one of the key charity partners of Heads Together, the campaign led by Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry.
