The queen made a cameo appearance alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig at the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony

KEY POINTS

  • Daniel Craig was made a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George for his services to film and theater
  • Princess Anne bestowed the James Bond actor with the honor at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle Tuesday
  • Queen Elizabeth gave him the honor in January as part of her annual New Year's honors list

Daniel Craig received the same honor as his fictional character James Bond after Queen Elizabeth made him a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in January.

Princess Anne presented the award to the 54-year-old actor at an investiture ceremony held at Windsor Castle Tuesday, People reported.

Craig was given the accolade for his services to film and theater as part of Queen Elizabeth's annual New Year's honors list.

The British royal family's official Twitter account shared a photo of Princess Anne putting the medal on Craig.

"We've been expecting you," the caption read. "The Princess Royal presents Daniel Craig with The Order of St Michael and St George - the same honor held by his character James Bond - in recognition of his outstanding contribution to film and theater."

The actor made his debut as James Bond in 2006's "Casino Royale." He played the role for the last time in "No Time to Die," which premiered in September 2021.

At around the same time as the film's release, Craig was named an honorary officer of the United Kingdom's Royal Navy. This was another role the actor shared with Bond, who is a Royal Navy commander in the movie series.

In 2012, Craig starred alongside Queen Elizabeth in a clip that aired during the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympics in London. His character was summoned to Buckingham Palace and escorted Her Majesty out along the corridors, with her corgis scurrying around their feet. Stunt actors playing the pair then helicoptered across London and parachuted into the Olympics venue.

In February, the "Knives Out" actor spoke about his encounter with the Queen during an appearance on "The Late Show," where he was asked about what Her Majesty was like in private.

"Very funny. Wants to crack a joke, and cracked a joke about me," Craig told host Stephen Colbert. "We're having our photographs taken and she just went, 'Oh no, he's the one that doesn't smile.' Fair enough!"

He also shared that he rolled around the floor with the Queen's pet corgis because "they're very friendly."

The Queen's beloved corgis found a new home in Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson's Royal Lodge home in Windsor after the late monarch's death on Sept. 8.

"The corgis will return to live at Royal Lodge with The Duke and Duchess. It was the Duchess who found the puppies which were gifted to Her Majesty by The Duke," an unnamed insider told Harper's Bazaar.

The source continued, "The Duchess bonded with Her Majesty over dog walking and riding horses and even after her divorce, she would continue her great friendship with Her Majesty by walking the dogs in Frogmore and chatting."

Ferguson, who celebrated her 63rd birthday Saturday, marked the occasion by sharing on Instagram a snap of her playing with the Queen's corgis.

"The presents that keep giving," she wrote in the caption.
