Princess Anne Was Almost Kidnapped Before Saying Queen Elizabeth Was Also In Danger
Princess Anne was almost kidnapped several years ago, and the incident left her husband, Captain Mark Phillips feeling very scared.
During a previous interview with Michael Parkinson, Phillips recounted the incident that took place on March 20, 1974. At that time, a man attacked Princess Royal while she was at The Mall outside Buckingham Palace.
Princess Anne and Phillips were on their way to the palace when a car suddenly swerved in front of their limousine.
“It never occurred to me that I might end up in that sort of situation. I think you had probably thought about it before,” Phillips said.
“It was a bit of a shock and I was frightened. I don’t mind admitting it… Somehow, while we had the dialogue going though, it didn’t seem too bad because we were able to keep talking, keep arguing, and it was alright,” he added.
But despite the traumatizing incident, Princess Anne revealed that she isn’t the member of the royal family who is in the most danger. Rather, it’s her mom, Queen Elizabeth II. Several years ago, Queen Victoria also became a victim of at least five kidnapping attempts.
However, it is still the Queen who has had the greatest number of assassination attempts throughout her reign as the monarch.
“Perhaps that’s your greatest danger, the lonely nutcase who just got enough to put it together. It would be very fair to say that if anybody was seriously intent on wiping acid it would be very easy to do,” she said.
On Oct. 4, 1981, a teenager tried to shoot Her Majesty while she and Prince Philip were visiting New Zealand. The minute the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh stepped out of their vehicle, the gunman, Christopher John Lewis, aimed his rifle at the royals but missed.
According to The Guardian, the 17-year-old’s attempt was the closest anyone has ever come to assassinating the 93-year-old monarch.
