Princess Anne’s First Day At Boarding School Was So ‘Traumatic’ For This Reason
Princess Anne reportedly became physically sick on her way to Benenden School years ago.
Princess Royal attended the all-girls school in Kent in 1963 and became the first-ever member of the royal family to leave the palace to attend school with other youngsters. However, the experience seemed to be so traumatic for the mom of two.
In the documentary “The Real Princess Anne,” royal expert Penny Junor said that the school’s headmistress said that Princess Anne was so nervous on her first day that she literally became physically sick on her way to Benenden School.
Junor, who was also a student at the school, revealed that everyone was excited about Princess Anne’s arrival.
“Everyone I knew said: ‘What’s she like? What’s she like?’ you know. And I said: ‘She’s just like one of us,’” Junor said.
However, it didn’t also take very long for Princess Anne to adjust to her new school and her classmates. “I think Anne really enjoyed being normal. I think she enjoyed the companionship as well,” she added.
Governess Catherine Peebles was one of Princess Anne’s teachers and she revealed that the royal was quite a handful. Since Peebles also served as Prince Charles’ teacher before he went to boarding school, she was able to make comparisons between the royal siblings. Peebles reportedly doted on the heir to the throne.
Meanwhile, Princess Anne also made headlines recently after a royal expert explained why she was never close to her three other siblings. On the podcast “Royals,” host Smita Mistry told royal commentator Angela Mollard that it seemed as though Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II had two sets of children.
“That’s right, she had Charles and Anne, then a decade later had Andrew and Edward, so it’s almost like two distinct families. They’re very different, all four of them,” Mollard said.
According to Mollard, Princess Anne is an incredibly strong-willed individual who is also forthright.
